Treatment Options
Once you’ve confirmed that your child has an autism spectrum disorder, you will have to dive into the world of treatments and therapies. There is so much information out there-it can really be overwhelming. This site is designed to be a brief overview of the major types of treatments and therapies, along with resources you can utilize in your search.
Any treatment plan for a child with autism should be holistic in nature–meaning it treats all areas of concern–physical, emotional, cognitive, nutritional, etc. The basic premise of a holistic approach to autism treatment is three-pronged. 1st, you find out what is in the child’s body that shouldn’t be there, such as yeast, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, or parasites and you rid the body of those substances. Second, you find what is missing in the body such as methyl B-12; glutathione; magnesium; zinc; omega 3’s; probiotics; and GABA, and you supplement that. Finally, you utilize therapies such as occupational therapy, ABA, Brain Gym, and Interactive Metronome to gain or regain skills that are missing or lost and build new neural pathways in the brain.
The brain is an amazing organ and can change, grow, and heal in ways most of us can’t even begin to fathom. When the brain is housed in a toxic body, healing can’t occur. If the brain is in an inflamed state, healing can’t occur. So, in order for the brain to heal, grow, and change, the body must be cleaned of harmful toxins and growth of new pathways must be stimulated through movement and focused, intensive attention to task over a period of time (Brain Gym, Interactive Metronome, Neurofeedback, and ABA).
